China hopes to connect South America with transcontinental railway

No transcontinental railway exists to connect the Amazon jungle to the Andes Mountains. China wants to change that. Earlier this year, it pledged to spend $10 billion for construction of such a railway from Brazil to Peru, which would cheapen the cost of sending Brazilian soybeans and iron ore to the Far East.
