Talk about short attention spans. Three weeks ago, people in the Belleville area were up in arms after seeing the video of a beating on a Belleville West school bus. But at a meeting Tuesday to address the problem, just 25 people showed up.
Has the community really moved on so quickly? Or did people only care when they thought the attack of a white student by two black students was racially motivated? If the meeting had been billed as about race, you can bet the place would have been packed. But bullying is something that happens to someone else's kid.
It's embarrassing that so few parents showed up. The violence on the bus that day was horrific whatever the attackers' motivation. Students deserve to feel safe traveling to school.
