Commentary: Leavenworth's the spot for Gitmo detainees

Despite the Kansas congressional contingent’s objections to a proposed terror prison/terror court in Leavenworth, the city is a good site to handle the vital national responsibility.

Sen. Pat Roberts held a teleconference from Washington, while Sen. Sam Brownback and Reps. Jerry Moran and Lynn Jenkins (all Republicans) did their condemning locally.

All pretty much agreed with Moran’s view that the new center poses a “serious threat to the security of the American people.” Brownback opined, “It seems silly to try to create a whole new system of detaining and adjudicating enemy combatants when Guantanamo is up and running and doing a good job.”
