Commentary: Heifer International's noble cause

This editorial appeared in The Tri-City Herald.

You wouldn't think a goat could change the world.

Turns out, it could.

And this is the season for it.

The Season of the Goat.

And the season of the heifer, the pig, the sheep, the chicken, the llama, the water buffalo, the duck and even the bees.

It's the driving idea behind Heifer International, an Arkansas-based organization that fights hunger and poverty by providing families in Third World countries, and even impoverished parts of the United States, with livestock upon which they not only can survive, but also prosper.

Heifer International puts out what it calls "The Most Important Gift Catalog in the World."

Donations are used to send animals to places where a flock of chickens can provide eggs to feed not just a family but help to feed a village.
