The Republican National Convention released a list of speakers at next week’s event in Cleveland Thursday, featuring several members of the Trump family and members of Congress. But Gov. Mike Pence of Indiana, who is rumored to be a top contender for Trump’s vice presidential candidate, is missing — spurring speculation he may in fact be the presumptive nominee’s pick.
Roll Call reported Thursday based on an anonymous source that Trump had in fact decided on the Indiana governor, though Trump is expected to formally make his announcement Friday. Pence’s campaign manager was also spotted flying to New York City Thursday, though it was unclear if his trip had anything to do with Trump’s planned announcement at Trump Tower.
The event, which will formally nominate Donald Trump as the standard-bearer of the Republican Party, will stretch over the week of July 18th. Trump’s list of speakers also includes several of his vanquished rivals for the Republican nomination: Sen. Ted Cruz, former Gov. Mike Huckabee, Ben Carson, Gov. Scott Walker and Gov. Chris Christie are all slated to speak.
Other rumored top vice presidential picks, including former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich and Christie, are named as speakers.
Trump visited Pence’s home earlier this week to discuss the vice presidential choice, but also met with Gingrich and called Christie about the decision as well.
