Democrats will hold their national convention next year in Philadelphia.
Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz announced the choice for the convention, to be held the week of July 25.
Other finalists were New York and Columbus, Ohio.
The convention will be the first in Philadelphia for a national party since Republicans nominated George W. Bush for president in 2000.
“I am thrilled to announce that Philadelphia will host the convention where we will nominate the 45th President of the United States,” said Wasserman Schultz, a Florida congresswoman.
“In addition to their commitment to a seamless and safe convention, Philadelphia’s deep rooted place in American history provides a perfect setting for this special gathering,” she said.
Republicans plan to meet in Cleveland the week of July 18.
