Looks like 2016 will have back-to-back party conventions.
Democrats announced Friday the party will hold its nominating convention the week of July 25, 2016, one week after Republicans meet in Cleveland.
The conventions are earlier this year than in recent past election cycles. With no incumbent running, both parties want more time to familiarize the public with their nominees – and give them more of a chance to raise money.
Democrats have not yet chosen a site for their convention. The finalists include Columbus, Ohio, Philadelphia and New York City. Final contract negotiations are underway.
