Of the nearly 4,000 police officers in Charlotte this week for the Democratic National Convention, more than 2,000 are from out-of-town departments from across the country.
Look closely at the badges for an idea of where they came from: Chicago, Denver, Milwaukee, Philadelphia, Gastonia, Raleigh, Apex, Boone, Myrtle Beach, and from many other departments.
From other cities and towns in North Carolina alone, there were an estimated 1,100 visiting officers on uptown streets. The reinforcements were paid for in part through a $50 million federal grant Charlotte received for DNC security.
