WASHINGTON- U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson delivered a heartfelt tribute on the Senate floor this morning to outgoing U.S. Rep. Lynn Westmoreland, who’s retiring when his term ends at the end of December.
Westmoreland, R-Coweta County, announced his retirement in January after serving six terms in the House.
“Lynn will be retiring, and we will miss him,” Isakson said. “We want to say thank you to Lynn for all that he’s done for Georgia when he was in our legislature, and for America in the Congress of the United States. He will be sorely missed but he will be appreciated always as a man of courage, a man of conviction, a man of commitment and a true son of Georgia that excelled in the United States of America.”
Isakson recalled his time working in real estate with Westmoreland, a former homebuilder who founded his own constrution company.
“He built that business to be one of the best building and construction businesses in our state, and I’m proud of what he accomplished,” Isakson told the gallery.
Westmoreland was elected to Congress in 2004 from Georgia’s 8th District. The district later became the 3rd District, where he now serves.
Westmoreland’s committee assignments include Financial Services, Housing and Insurance, and the Select Intelligence committee.
“As a member of the Intelligence Committee in the House, (Westmoreland) has been instrumental since 9/11 to seeing to it that we remain safe in this country and that we have the information we need to make the decisions we need to make to keep America safe,” Isakson said....“Wherever Lynn has been, he has been a leader and fighter for what’s right for our country and to be a dynamic leader for our state.”
“Lynn Westmoreland is a true entrepreneur, a native Georgian, a dedicated father, an outstanding businessman and an unquestionable leader in the United States House of Representatives,” Isakson added.
