Obama to head to CDC for Ebola briefing

President Barack Obama will head to Atlanta on Tuesday to visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and attend a briefing on the outbreak of the Ebola virus that has devastated parts of West Africa.

Press Secretary Josh Earnest said Obama will discuss the U.S. response to the outbreak and thank the scientists, doctors and health care workers who are helping those affected by the disease in the U.S. and Africa.

Obama will also receive an update on a respiratory illness that's been reported in several states across the Midwest, Earnest said.

The World Health Organization is sounding the alarm that it has too few doctors and nurses willing to work in Africa to respond effectively to the continent’s outbreak of Ebola.

Margaret Chan, director-general of the World Health Organization, told reporters Friday at the agency’s headquarters in Geneva that “the number of new patients is moving faster than the capacity to manage them.” She said the world health community needs three to four times as many resources at it has committed “to catch up with the outbreaks.”
