Republicans are far more optimistic about their prospects this election year than Democrats.
A new Pew Research Center survey, conducted with USA Today, found that “Republican voters are widening the ‘expectations gap’ with the Democrats.”
Sixty-one percent of Republican and Republican-leaning registered voters said their party will fare better than it has recently, while only 32 percent of Democrats thought that way about their party.
The survey, conducted August 20-24 among 1,501 adults (including 1,171 registered voters), said that 49 percent of voters have given “quite a lot” of thought to the November election. That’s about the same as in the past.
Pew noted, “those who plan to vote Republican this fall have given more thought than Democratic voters to the midterm elections.”
