The House Thursday passed Republican-authored 10 year budget plan, 219 to 205, as a dozen Republicans joined 193 Democrats in opposition.
The budget has no chance of being adopted in the Senate.
The proposal, sponsored by House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan, R-Wis., would balance the budget by fiscal 2024. It reduces spending dramatically, repealing the Affordable Care Act and cutting spending on Medicare and Medicaid.
Alternative budgets were rejected. A Democratic plan and a conservative Republican plan voth were defeated Thursday. A Congressional Progressive Caucus budget alternative was soundly rejected Wednesday, along with a budget plan from the Congressional Black Caucus.
Also losing, and big: President Barack Obama's budget plan--it was turned down 413 to 2.
The Ryan plan is not likely to win approval in the Democratic-run Senate, and Senate Democrats are not expected to offer their own plan this year.
