The Obama administration announced Friday that people who want individual health coverage that begins on January 1, 2014 will now have eight extra days - until Dec. 23 - to enroll in a marketplace plan.
Officials said the change was made because of problems people in 36 states have faced in signing up for coverage on the troubled HealthCare.gov website.
"We understand that technical challenges have made comparing plans more difficult in these first months and we want to give consumers as much time as possible," said Julie Bataille, communications director for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
"This extension will allow consumers more time to review plan options, to talk with their families, providers or enrollment (counselors) and to enroll in a plan," Bataille added.
