Press Secretary Jay Carney on Monday sought to downplay suggestions that there will be a shake up at the White House due to the botched rollout of the president's health care law.
Carney said since the problems emerged Obama has made clear "he wants his team focused on making the necessary fixes" to the program's website.
"We're not, you know, engaged in a lot of Monday morning quarterbacking here," Carney insisted. "I have no personnel decisions to announce or to even preview, because right now everybody on the president's team is focused on making the improvements necessary so that this important legislation provides the benefits to millions of Americans that it was designed to provide."
Carney's predecessor, Robert Gibbs, told the Today show Monday that he believed the administration was "going to have to hold someone accountable for the botched rollout and the website not working — someone at HHS or a group of people at CMS.”
But Carney said Obama is focused on fixing the website.
"He believes his team ought to be and is focused on getting this right for the American people, making the fixes to the website that are necessary so that it functions more effectively for users across the country, making necessary fixes to the law that we can make to make it better for Americans around the country," Carney said. "We're focused and he's focused on implementation."
Asked whether there'd be some kind of reckoning down the road, Carney said, "hypothetically, you could say that. I think it's also the case that personnel changes happen all the time, and I wouldn't necessarily associate any particular one with any incident."
