German intel officials in DC to talk to counterparts amid spy furor

A senior German government delegation that includes Germany's National Security Advisor and the German Chancellery Intelligence Coordinator is meeting at the White House today with its American counterparts amid widespread European unease with U.S. surveillance operations.

The White House says the German delegation will meet with National Security Advisor Susan Rice, Assistant to the President for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism Lisa Monaco, Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, Deputy Director of the National Security Agency John Inglis and other U.S. officials.

The meeting is part of President Barack Obama and German Chancellor Angela Merkel's recent agreement "to intensify further the cooperation between U.S. and German intelligence services," National Security spokeswoman Caitlin Hayden said.
