A new analysis by the Obama administration finds that 1.3 million young adults ages 18 to 34 who could be eligible for health coverage in 34 states served by the federal marketplace and state/federal partnership marketplaces could find coverage for $50 or less per month after receiving a government subsidy, according to a new Obama administration analysis.
Another 66 percent, or 1.9 million young adults in the same age group could get marketplace coverage for $100 or less, the study found.
And in states that have expanded their eligibility for Medicaid coverage, another 1 million low-income young adults could qualify for coverage under joint state/federal health program for low-income Americans.
Young adults are the group most likely to do without health insurance. The Affordable Care Act will attempt to enroll 7 million Americans into health coverage on the federal marketplace by March 31, 2014. The effort must include a sizable share of young adults, whose overall lower health costs, will help keep marketplace premiums in check.
