The Republican National Committee launched robo calls in five states urging constituents to demand Democrats stand up for veterans during the federal government shutdown.
The calls target DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada and Sens. Mark Begich of Alaska, Mary Landrieu of Louisiana and Kay Hagan of North Carolina.
They come after a vote in the House of Representatives to ensure our veterans receive their benefits.
“While Democrats played politics, Republicans in the House of Representatives took action to pass bipartisan legislation to make sure our veterans receive the benefits they earned,” RNC Chairman Reince Priebus said. “Between jeopardizing the benefits for our veterans to shutting down the World War II Memorial, Democrats and President Obama are trying to make this shutdown as painful as possible for everyone. These brave Americans and their families have sacrificed so much for our country, it’s only fair that Senator Reid brings this vote to the floor. It’s imperative their constituents speak out so the government can end this shutdown and keep our commitment to the people who defended this country.”
Here's the script:
Hi, this is ________ calling on behalf of the Republican National Committee.
SENATOR (XX) and Senate Democrats think this shutdown is a game.
They are playing politics by cutting off our veterans and their benefits. In a bi-partisan vote the House of Representatives wanted to make sure our veterans got the benefits they earned for fighting for our freedoms.
But, SENATOR (XX) won’t negotiate. These men and women served our country with honor and yet SENATOR (XX) would rather put partisan politics ahead of honoring our commitment to the people who defended this country.
Call SENATOR (XX) at xxx-xxx-xxxx and tell him/her to stand up for veterans and demand a vote in the Senate. This call has been paid for by the Republican National Committee at 202-863-8500.
