California State University paid $75,000 for Palin speech

Sarah Palin made $75,000 to speak at a fund-raiser at California State University, Stanislaus, the university announced today.

An accounting summary of the June 25 event shows total fundraising at more than $473,000, which includes in-kind gifts such as drinks and supplies. Net proceeds were more than $207,000, making it the most successful fundraising event held in the campus’ history.

It’s not clear why the university decided to release the amount it paid Palin; a confidentiality clause in her contract precluded making her payment public.

Also today, the university said all of the proceeds will go toward student scholarships; on June 25, President Hamid Shirvani said a third of the proceeds would be used for scholarships, with the board of the foundation that hosted the event determining where the rest of the money would go.
