Two political science students at California State University, Stanislaus, held a press conference this morning to announce they found pages of a Washington Speakers Bureau contract in a dumpster outside their school's administration building on Friday, setting off speculation by a critical lawmaker that the campus is hiding information about its upcoming fundraiser featuring former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.
"It is truly shocking and a gross violation of the public trust that such documents would be thrown away and destroyed during a pending investigation," Sen. Leland Yee (D-San Francisco) said in a statement released after his press conference with the students.
Earlier this month, Yee filed a Public Records Act request with the university asking for documents related to Palin's appearance. The university responded that it did not have any related documents. Yee said he asked the Attorney General's office to investigate.
