Former eBay CEO Meg Whitman has a hefty fist full of dollars to spend in a Republican gubernatorial primary featuring a clash of wealthy Silicon Valley titans.
The Whitman campaign reported Friday that she has some $19 million in cash available with about 10 months to go before the June 8, 2010 primary election. That's after spending $6.1 million in getting her campaign operation running over the past six months.
In campaign reports filed with Secretary of State Debra Bowen on Friday, Whitman campaign reported raising $6.8 million from individual contributors between Jan. 1 and June 30.
Whitman personally gave her campaign $4 million before the filing deadline. Whitman, who had $4.9 million in cash on hand on June 30, then contributed another $15 million in early July.
