CHARLOTTE — A huge crowd turned out to see Barack Obama on Sunday, where the Democratic candidate blasted John McCain as a dangerous choice for Americans facing economic upheaval.
The Obama campaign quoted the Charlotte Fire Department as saying 20,000 people had gathered inside the gates outside City Hall to hear Obama, while another 5,000-10,000 were outside.
"We're now seeing the disastrous consequences of this philosophy all around us — on Wall Street as well as Main Street," Obama said. "And yet Senator McCain, who candidly admitted not long ago that he doesn't know as much about economics as he should, wants to keep going down the same, disastrous path."
"We simply cannot afford four more years of an economic philosophy that works for Wall Street instead of Main Street, and ends up devastating both," Obama said.
