Obama's Penn State appearance draws thousands

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Illinois Sen. Barack Obama delivered a rousing stump speech on Penn State's Old Main lawn on Sunday, thrilling a crowd of about 22,000 people jammed shoulder to shoulder under a sunny sky and light breeze for a close encounter with the Democratic presidential contest.

Obama’s hourlong speech capped an 18-hour visit that included an overnight stay at The Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel, a pickup basketball game at the Bryce Jordan Center and an introduction to the College of Agricultural Sciences dairy complex behind Beaver Stadium, where he fed milk to a 1-month-old Holstein.

Obama’s full-blown speech on Old Main lawn pulled in thousands of central Pennsylvanians to mix with thousands of Penn State students.
