Republican group supports Biden in swing state TV ad. What is The Lincoln Project?
A conservative group just released a new advertisement supporting Joe Biden for president.
The ad started airing in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Grand Rapids, Michigan, Wednesday, according to The Lincoln Project. Both are swing states that Trump narrowly won in 2016.
The Lincoln Project is led mainly by a group of conservative strategists, including George Conway, husband of trusted Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway.
“America knows Joe Biden,” the advertisement says. “He is the man for this moment.”
“He will unify this nation again. He won’t see just Democrats or Republicans, he will see Americans,” the narrator says.
In a statement released with the new ad, Jennifer Horn, co-founder of The Lincoln Project, said, “Vice President Biden has shown he has the temperament and experience to lead our nation in a time of crisis. Donald Trump has left America in a state of danger, despair and economic depression, and the risks are too high to allow him another term.”
“He has the empathy, compassion and strength to serve. Vice President Biden is the antithesis of everything Donald Trump stands for, and his personal triumphs and tragedies have shaped him into the leader he is today. Joe Biden is the best choice to lead America through our worst crisis in a century,” she said.
In a Washington Post op-ed last week, The Lincoln Project founders wrote, “The United States is beset with a president who was unprepared for the burden of the presidency and who has made plain his deficits in leadership, management, intelligence and morality.”
“Publicly supporting a Democratic nominee for president is a first for all of us. We are in extraordinary times, and we have chosen to put country over party,” the group said.
