CARACAS, Venezuela — Carlos Andres Perez, former president of Venezuela, died Saturday in Miami, his daughter told Globovision television.
The 88-year-old ruled the South American nation from 1974 to 1979 and again from 1989 to 1993. He was removed from office in 1993 for misappropriation of public funds.
Perez was among the most prominent critics of President Hugo Chavez. Chavez led a failed coup d'etat against Perez in 1992.
