Fresh from expropriating Venezuela's top steel producer, President Hugo Chávez on Monday celebrated a more mundane milestone: his millionth Twitter follower.

``Good morning good world!!'' Chávez wrote on his Twitter account @chavezcandanga. ``We've passed a million followers!!''

Since opening his account in April, Chávez has become a prolific writer on the social networking service that allows users to blast out 140-character messages.

He has more followers than any sitting president except for Barack Obama.

Over the last week, Chávez has used the site to send his condolences to Argentina's President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner and congratulate Brazil's President-elect Dilma Rousseff.

Members of his communications staff says that Chávez maintains the account himself.
