Round-up of Daily Violence in Iraq - Friday 16 July, 2010

The daily Iraq violence report is compiled by McClatchy Newspapers Special Correspondents in Baghdad from police, military and medical reports. This is not a comprehensive list of all violence in Iraq, much of which goes unreported. It's posted without editing as transmitted to McClatchy's Washington Bureau.


A roadside bomb targeted civilians in Jumhuriyah Street, Bab al Sharqi, central Baghdad, Friday, injuring four.

A roadside bomb exploded in Abu Ghraib district, west Baghdad, Friday, killing three.

A booby-trapped motorcycle parked in the main marketplace in the city of Mahmoudiyah, to the south of Baghdad, detonated, Friday, killing two civilians and injuring ten others, some of whole injuries were serious.

A roadside bomb targeted civilians in Jihad neighbourhood, west Baghdad, Friday, seriously injuring two civilians and destroying a civilian car.

Two unidentified bodies were found in Baghdad, Thursday. The first was found in Abu Nowas Street, and had several knife stabs; and the other was found in Shaab neighbourhood, north Baghdad, and had gun-shot wounds.


Armed men shot and killed a teacher who used to be a member of the local Sahwa force (like a neighbourhood guard militia first sponsored by the U.S. military and then turned over to the Iraqi government) in Abbara area, south Baquba, Thursday. He is the third member of his family who has been targeted in the same way.


A car bomb parked near an ice-cream parlour in Arbaeen Street, downtown Tikrit, detonated, Thursday, killing six people including three police officers and injuring 11 others, many of whom where women and children.

A stun-bomb detonated in a house-under-construction in Zuhur neighbourhood, central Tikrit, Thursday.
