Round-up of Daily Violence in Iraq - Wednesday 3 February, 2010

The daily Iraq violence report is compiled by McClatchy Newspapers Special Correspondents in Baghdad from police, military and medical reports. This is not a comprehensive list of all violence in Iraq, much of which goes unreported. It's posted without editing as transmitted to McClatchy's Washington Bureau.

Baghdad

A roadside bomb targeted pilgrims in Liqaa Square, Mansour neighbourhood, west Baghdad at 7 a.m. Wednesday killing one pilgrim and injuring three others.

A roadside bomb targeted pilgrims in Amil neighbourhood, southwest Baghdad at 7.30 a.m. Wednesday, injuring three.

Karbala

A parked car bomb targeted pilgrims in the centre of Twereej, a town rich in symbolism regarding the Arbaeen pilgrimage, 7 km to the southeast of Karbala, Wednesday, killing 21 pilgrims and injuring another 128, Iraqi police said.

A booby trapped bicycle exploded in Twereej, targeting a police patrol that was providing security for pilgrims on their way to Karbala, Tuesday, injuring 22 people.

Nineveh

A roadside bomb targeted civilians in an open air market in the town of Hamdaniyah, 30 km to the east of Mosul, Tuesday, injuring four, including one woman and one child. And the police found and defused another bomb in the same location, Iraqi police said.

Insurgents threw a home made bomb at a police patrol in Faruq neighbourhood, central Mosul, late Tuesday, injuring one policeman and one civilian.

Armed men raided a house in al Shuhadaa neighbourhood, western Mosul, late Tuesday. They killed one young man and then fled in a vehicle waiting outside for them.
