The daily Iraq violence report is compiled by McClatchy Newspapers Special Correspondents in Baghdad from police, military and medical reports. This is not a comprehensive list of all violence in Iraq, much of which goes unreported. It's posted without editing as transmitted to McClatchy's Washington Bureau.
Baghdad
- A roadside bomb exploded in Ameriyah neighborhood, west Baghdad, injuring six civilians.
Al Anbar
- Gunmen planted locally made bombs around and inside three houses of police officers and their relatives in Hit city, 120 miles west of Baghdad, killing four women and two children and two men and injuring six. The explosions targeted the house of Lt. Col Waleed Hammoudi, the head of the city’s counter terrorism unit, and the nearby house of his father and his brother’s, a lawyer, among the dead Hammoudi’s wife, children, his brother (and his wife), sister and other members of the family, Hammoudi was injured. The attack took place around 2 a.m. Police imposed curfew till the morning. Not long after the curfew was lifted a roadside bomb targeted police deputy chief Lt. Col. Omar Rabea who was heading to the site killing two of his bodyguards. Police imposed curfew again and closed all city’s entrances and exits.
Nineveh
- Two children were killed and one was injured when a bomb exploded inside their house in southern Mosul.
- A roadside bomb exploded targeting a police patrol in west Mosul injured two policemen.
- A parked car bomb exploded in Bartullah town, 10 miles east of Mosul, injuring four civilians.
- A gunman threw a grenade at a police vehicle in central Mosul injuring five people.
Diyala
- A roadside bomb exploded near a Shiite mosque in Khaniqn town east of Baquba killing one policeman and injuring 13 other people.
