The daily Iraq violence report is compiled by McClatchy Newspapers Special Correspondents in Baghdad from police, military and medical reports. This is not a comprehensive list of all violence in Iraq, much of which goes unreported. It's posted without editing as transmitted to McClatchy's Washington Bureau.

Baghdad

A roadside bomb targeted civilians in Sina'a Street, Karrada, central Baghdad at 1 p.m. Thursday, injuring five young men.

Gunmen shot and killed the headmistress of al Ma'ali School for girls in al Ghadeer neighbourhood, east Baghdad at 1 p.m. Thursday.

A roadside bomb targeted civilians near Khullani Square, central Baghdad at 3 p.m. Thursday, injuring three young men.

A magnetic bomb stuck to a parked civilian car detonated late Wednesday in Shaab neighbourhood, northern Baghdad injuring four civilians.

Diyala

Othman Mohammed, commander of Sahwa (a U.S. backed militia now turned over to the government) in Khan Beni Saad, 15 km to the southwest of Baquba, was ambushed and killed by gunmen while on inspection tour of Sahwa checkpoints in his district, Thursday evening. One of his aids, who was with him in his car, was also killed.

Nineveh

Gunmen shot and killed one civilian in Shurta neighbourhood, northern Mosul, Thursday.

Gunmen shot and killed one civilian in Sahha neighbourhood, western Mosul, Thursday.

Insurgents threw a hand grenade at a police patrol in Muthanna neighbourhood, eastern Mosul, Thursday, injuring two policemen.
