Round-up of Daily Violence in Iraq - Monday 14 September, 2009

The daily Iraq violence report is compiled by McClatchy Newspapers Special Correspondents in Baghdad from police, military and medical reports. This is not a comprehensive list of all violence in Iraq, much of which goes unreported. It's posted without editing as transmitted to McClatchy's Washington Bureau.


A roadside bomb targeted a police patrol in Karrada, central Baghdad at 9 a.m. Monday, injuring one policeman and two civilians.

A roadside bomb targeted a checkpoint in al Urdun intersection, Yarmouk, in western Baghdad at 6 p.m. Monday injuring one civilian.


A parked car bomb targeted an Iraqi army patrol in central Baquba, Monday afternoon, injuring two civilians and two servicemen.

A roadside bomb targeted a civilian car in Abu Khamees neighbourhood, 10 km to the south of Baquba, Monday. A father and son were inside the car; the father was killed and the son critically injured.


Insurgents fired at a U.S. military helicopter in Tel Aqra, western Mosul, Monday, and the U.S. military returned fire killing one insurgent. The police responded to the situation and engaged the insurgents in a fire fight killing two more insurgents and captured another. Two policemen were killed during this confrontation.

A roadside bomb targeted a police checkpoint in Farouq neighbourhood, central Mosul, Monday, killing one policeman and injuring seven others.

Insurgents attack an Iraqi army checkpoint in Sukkar neighbourhood, Monday, killing one serviceman.

A roadside bomb targeted a police patrol in Bursa neighbourhood, western Mosul, Monday morning, killing a woman and injuring her daughter.


Police said one female student in the Institute of Technology was kidnapped, Sunday. The investigation is ongoing but no further information was available, said local police.
