Search ends for dozens missing in Haiti boat sinking

MIAMI — The U.S. Coast Guard and Turks and Caicos Island government called off the search Wednesday for an estimated 67 Haitian migrants missing at sea after their overcrowded boat hit a reef over the weekend, authorities said.

No additional bodies have been recovered from the 15 that were plucked out of the shark-infested waters in two days of searches.

But the number of survivors grew from 118 to 119 Wednesday after TCI police say the U.S. Coast Guard found a man on West Caicos, an uninhabited island 2.3 miles from where the boating tragedy occurred, and he was taken for medical treatment on the resort island of Providenciales.
