Roundup of Daily Violence in Iraq-Monday 19 May 2009

The daily Iraq violence report is compiled by McClatchy Newspapers Special Correspondents in Baghdad from police, military and medical reports. This is not a comprehensive list of all violence in Iraq, much of which goes unreported. It's posted without editing as transmitted to McClatchy's Washington Bureau.


-Around 10 a.m. a Katyusha missile hit the International Zone (IZ) in downtown Baghdad on Tuesday. No casualties reported.

- Around 11 a.m. a roadside bomb detonated in Taji town (north of Baghdad) on Tuesday. Two people were killed and 5 others were wounded.


- On Monday afternoon a US patrol killed a man in the fifties in Mosul. The man was driving his cab in Dawasa neighborhood and he tried to pass the patrol despite the warning to stop his car. The US forces opened fire on him and he was shot dead at once . The US army confirmed the incident in a statement” Coalition forces signaled for the vehicle to stop. The vehicle continued its approach, forcing CF to fire at it, killing the driver. The vehicle struck one of the Coalition vehicles”.
