Round-up of Daily Violence in Iraq - Friday 15 May 2009

Gunmen in a speeding BMW opened fire and killed one civilian Friday morning. He was a member of a family that was displaced from Jihad neighbourhood in western Baghdad.

Gunmen threw two hand grenades at a U.S. military convoy in New Baghdad in eastern Baghdad at 10 a.m. Friday injuring two civilians and causing no damage to the U.S. convoy.

A roadside bomb detonated in Yarmouk neighbourhood, western Baghdad at 10 pm Thursday injuring two civilians.


A gunman opened fire upon a police patrol in Yarmouk neighbourhood, downtown Mosul at 2 p.m. Friday injuring two policemen. The gunman was caught.

- A reporter of Salahuddin T.V channel in Mosul survived an assassination attempt near her house in Reshidiyah neighborhood on Friday. Around 8:45 a.m. Khalida Al-Mawla was about to drive her car to Salahuddin station when a small boy told her that a magnetic bomb was put under the driver’s seat. She phoned the police, but the bomb detonated before they came, Mawla said. No casualties were reported, but the car was destroyed.


- Around 8:30 p.m. a gunman opened fire on a joint checkpoint of police commando and Sahwa members(Sons of Iraq) at Sikak neighborhood in downtown Samarra. Two policemen were wounded with a Sahwa member.
