Round-up of Daily violence in Iraq - Sunday 26 April 2009

The daily Iraqi violence report is compiled by McClatchy Newspapers Special Correspondents in Baghdad from police, military and medical reports. This is not a comprehensive list of all violence in Iraq, much of which goes unreported. It’s posted without editing as transmitted to McClatchy’s Washington Bureau.

Two Iraqi soldiers were killed when gunmen attacked a checkpoint of Iraqi army in al Karama neighborhood in east Mosul on Saturday evening.

A policeman was killed after insurgents broke in his house in alKhadraa area in east Mosul on Sunday morning.

An American military unit in Wasit province raided a house in the 14th of July neighborhood in downtown Kut city at dawn, the Iraqi national police said. A man and woman were killed in the raid and four men were arrested by the American troops, including a police officer, the police said. The U.S. confirmed the incident but said six suspected terrorists were detained. In a statement, the U.S. said the man who died was a suspected terrorist and the woman who died was killed accidently. "During the engagement, a woman in the area moved into the line of fire and was also struck by gunfire," the U.S. said. "A Coalition forces medic treated her on site, but she died of her wounds before she could be evacuated." The U.S. said the raid was "fully coordinated and approved by the Iraqi government."

- A roadside bomb targeted a national police patrol in Dora neighborhood in southern Baghdad around 9:30 p.m. One policeman was killed and another one was wounded.
