Roundup of Daily Violence in Iraq-Sunday 22 March 2009

The daily Iraqi violence report is compiled by McClatchy Newspapers Special Correspondents in Baghdad from police, military and medical reports. This is not a comprehensive list of all violence in Iraq, much of which goes unreported. It’s posted without editing as transmitted to McClatchy’s Washington Bureau.


- A magnetic bomb detonated under a civilian’s car in Salhiyah neighborhood in downtown Baghdad around 8:30 p.m. Four people were wounded including two policemen who were at the scene while the other two civilians were inside the car.


Four Iraqi soldiers were killed by a roadside bomb that targeted their patrol east of Baquba around 3 a.m.


- Police found a dead body for an Iraqi soldier in Zawiya village in Qayara town (37 miles south of Mosul). The soldier was kidnapped during his vacation in his village two days ago.

- A roadside bomb detonated in Bab alBeidh neighborhood in downtown Mosul around 5 p.m.

- Gunmen opened fire at a police patrol in Ras alJadda neighborhood in Mosul. One civilian was wounded.
