This is not a comprehensive list of all violence in Iraq, much of which goes unreported. It's posted without editing as transmitted to McClatchy's Washington Bureau.
Nineveh
A speeding civilian car approached a U.S. military checkpoint, in Gayara district, 80 km to the south of Mosul, the U.S. military shot at it, missing the car, injured a 12 year old girl passing by. Iraqi Security Forces took her to the local hospital, but nothing could be done and she died. It turned out that the civilian car constituted no threat. The U.S. military confirmed the incident: A 12-year-old girl died as a result of wounds she suffered as a bystander to an escalation-of-force incident involving Coalition forces and a high-speed vehicle today in Nineveh province. The incident is currently under investigation.
- Gunmen killed a civilian in the New Mosul neighborhood in southern Mosul in the morning.
- Gunmen killed a university student in the New Mosul neighborhood around noon.
- Police found a dead body for a soldier in Qayara (about 50 miles south of Mosul). The soldier had got two shots, one in the head and the other was in the chest.
- Police killed a gunman who tried to throw a grenade at a police patrol in Mansour neighborhood in southern Mosul in the afternoon.
- Gunmen killed a soldier near a check point in Mosul around 6:15 p.m.
Salahuddin
- Police found two dead bodies for two young men of 16 and 18 years in a deserted area in AlUthaim(north of Baquba) in Diyala province and few miles east of Dhuluiyah (south of Tikrit and 60 miles north of Baghdad), the place where the two young men were kidnapped in three days ago.
Diyala
- Gunmen killed a civilian in Abarra village of Buhriz (3 miles south of Baquba) around noon.
