Round-up of Daily Violence in Iraq - Saturday 14 March 2009

The daily Iraq violence report is compiled by McClatchy Newspapers Special Correspondents in Baghdad from police, military and medical reports. This is not a comprehensive list of all violence in Iraq, much of which goes unreported. It's posted without editing as transmitted to McClatchy's Washington Bureau.

Baghdad

One Katyusha missile targeted Doura Oil Refinery in south Baghdad at 5 a.m. Saturday, burning one fuel tank, without causing any casualties.

One Katyusha missile targeted the Green Zone Saturday morning. No casualties were reported.

A sticky bomb, stuck to a car detonated in al Jamia neighbourhood, western Baghdad at 3 p.m. The car belonged to a shop owner and the blast caused damages to two shops without anyone getting hurt.

A sticky bomb detonated in Grayaat neighbourhood, northern Baghdad at around 5 p.m. seriously injuring the family of the brother of Sahwa leader of Sabei Abkar area. The family included the mother, father, two sons and a daughter.

A roadside bomb targeted an Iraqi army patrol in Mansour, central Baghdad at 7 p.m. injuring two servicemen.

A roadside bomb targeted civilians in Dawoodi neighbourhood, central Baghdad injuring two young men.

Nineveh

Gunmen targeted a policewoman while shopping, off duty, in al Saray marketplace, central Mosul at 10 a.m. Saturday. The gunmen were on foot, carrying guns. They shot her and scattered in the narrow alleyways of the old marketplace.

Diyala

A roadside bomb targeted an Iraqi army patrol on the main route between Baquba and Mendili, 55 km to the east of Baquba at 2.30 a.m. Saturday killing two servicemen, injuring another.
