Round-up of Daily Violence in Iraq - Monday 5 January 2009

The daily Iraqi violence report is compiled by McClatchy Newspapers Special Correspondents in Baghdad from police, military and medical reports. This is not a comprehensive list of all violence in Iraq, much of which goes unreported. It’s posted without editing as transmitted to McClatchy’s Washington Bureau.


Twelve civilians were injured by two roadside bombs in Karrada neighborhood in downtown Baghdad around 8 a.m.

Four civilians were wounded by roadside bomb in Karrada neighborhood around 9 a.m.

Five civilians were wounded by a roadside bomb in Abo Desheer neighborhood in south Baghdad around 11 a.m. Four cars were damaged by the explosion.

Four civilians were wounded by a roadside bomb in Palestine Street in east Baghdad around 12 p.m.

Two civilians were killed and six people (three policemen and three civilians) were injured by a roadside bomb which targeted a police patrol in Zayuna neighborhood in east Baghdad around 1 p.m.

Police found one body in Baghdad in Dora neighborhood.


- A parked car bomb targeted an Iraqi army vehicle in Al Sada Bawiza neighborhood in Mosul injuring one soldier and four civilians.

- A roadside bomb targeted students were leaving Al Hadbaa college in Mosul injured seven students.

- Gunmen killed a final year medicine college student as he was leaving Al Khansa hospital in Mosul.
