Round-up of Daily Violence in Iraq, Monday 14 July 2008

The daily Iraq violence report is compiled by McClatchy Newspapers Special Correspondents in Baghdad from police, military and medical reports. This is not a comprehensive list of all violence in Iraq, much of which goes unreported. It's posted without editing as transmitted to McClatchy's Washington Bureau.


Gunmen driving a civilian car threw a hand grenade at a group of traffic police on duty near Alawi al-Hilla tunnel, central Baghdad at 1 p.m. killing three people including one policeman, injuring thirteen including four policemen.

Two unidentified bodies were found in Baghdad by Iraqi Police today; one in Waziriyah and the other in Sheikh Maroof.


An IED targeted Sahwa members, a U.S. backed militia, in Abu Khanazir, Muqdadiyah, 20 km east of Baquba at noon Monday injuring two Sahwa members.

Local police found two unidentified bodies in Muqdadiyah, 35 km to the east of Baquba at around 12.45 p.m.


Local police found five unidentified bodies in Tel Atta, Tilkeif district Monday, including two female bodies.

Security forces manning a checkpoint in Nebi Younis neighbourhood, eastern Mosul, open fire upon a suspected woman who wouldn't stop, Monday. It turned out it was a man in disguise wearing a suicide vest.

Gunmen killed one policeman in Garage al-Shimal.


An Iranian Coast Guard patrol opened fire upon an Iraqi fisherman fishing in Iraqi waters off the coast of Fao district 100 km to the south of Basra City, said Iraqi Police. The fisherman was hit squarely in the back and barely made it to hospital.


A roadside bomb targeted members of the Border Guard near Peshta border point between Iraq and Iran, 150 km to the southeast of Sulaimaniyah City injuring one officer and one guard who were taken to hospital for transportation.
