The daily Iraq violence report is compiled by McClatchy Newspapers Special Correspondents in Baghdad from police, military and medical reports. This is not a comprehensive list of all violence in Iraq, much of which goes unreported. It's posted without editing as transmitted to McClatchy's Washington Bureau.

Baghdad

Gunmen fired four mortar rounds from Amil area targeting the Scania complex currently used as a U.S. military camp in southern Baghdad at 2 a.m. Wednesday. The U.S. military returned fire, four 81 mm mortar rounds that hit Amil neighbourhood killing two civilians injuring ten and destroying two houses. According to U.S. military sources, two Iraqi civilians were killed and nine wounded in the West Rashid district of Baghdad when Coalition Forces returned fire following a Special Groups extremists' rocket attack in the West Rashid area at around 2 a.m. The U.S. Military said extremists fired two 107mm rockets from the West Rashid. It is believed their target was a Coalition Forces base. One of the rounds landed in a residential area. The 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, returned fire at the insurgents in self-defense and accidently killed two civilians, injured nine and destroyed a building in the Amel neighborhood. “This is a regrettable incident when the enemy chooses to use a neighborhood as a battleground,” said Col. Ted Martin, commander, 1st BCT, 4th Inf. Div. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the dead and injured. We are launching an investigation and will make restitution for any damage or injury caused by our actionsA roadside bomb targeted a U.S. military convoy near Maysaloon Square in the direction of Rubaei Street, east Baghdad at around 10 a.m. said Iraqi Police. No casualties were reported.

A roadside bomb tardeted civilians in Zafaraniyah, Sharikat intersection at 1 p.m. injuring three civilians.

A roadside bomb went off in Palestine Street targeting a National Police patrol Wednesday evening killing two people including one policeman and wounding six including three policemen.

Three unidentified bodies were found in Baghdad by Iraqi Police today; one in Nidhal Street, one in Nahdha area and one in Amil.

Erbil

Gunmen kidnapped the manager of Noruz Satellite Station, a Kurdish speaking station under the Kurdish Ministry of Information early Wednesday. Azad Argoshi was found in very bad shape on the route to Permam resort in Erbil and has been taken to hospital for treatment.

Sulaimaniyah

Gunmen threw a hand grenade inside the residence of Judge Sarkut Awni Omer in Qalat Daza district, northeastern Suaimaniyah early Wednesday. The greater part of the house was destroyed, but there were no casualties.
