Round-up of Daily Violence in Iraq, Sunday 1 June 2008

The daily Iraq violence report is compiled by McClatchy Newspapers Special Correspondents in Baghdad from police, military and medical reports. This is not a comprehensive list of all violence in Iraq, much of which goes unreported. It's posted without editing as transmitted to McClatchy's Washington Bureau.


A parked car bomb detonated in a car park near the Iranian Embassy in Salhiyah, central Baghdad at 8 am Sunday, killing 2 civilians and injuring 5 people, 3 of whom were guards at the embassy.

3 unidentified bodies were found in Baghdad by Iraqi police today. 1 in MIN; 1 IN Shoala and 1 in al-Washash.


A roadside bomb targeted a police patrol in downtown Kirkuk near College of Sciences, Kirkuk University and the nearby hospital injuring 6 policemen and 2 civilians.


1 civilian killed by gunmen near the church in al-Noor neighbourhood, east Mosul, Sunday.

A parked car bomb targeted the head quarters of the Kurdistani Party in Tamim neighbourhood killing 3 civilians, injuring 8 late Saturday.


Gunmen attacked an American military convoy in al-Tibej area, Jalowlaa district, to the northeast of Baquba, Sunday. One Hummer vehicle was destroyed and another fell into the river, according to local police. US military helicopters came to the scene and one landed to transport injuries to base, said Jalowlaa police. No comment was available from the US military at time of publication.
