Round-up of Daily Violence in Iraq, Friday 21 March 2008

The daily Iraq violence report is compiled by McClatchy Newspapers Special Correspondents in Baghdad from police, military and medical reports. This is not a comprehensive list of all violence in Iraq, much of which goes unreported. It's posted without editing as transmitted to McClatchy's Washington Bureau.

Baghdad

Clashes were reported between joint security forces and gunmen suspected to be members of a Shiite militia in al-Shurta al-Rabaa, al-Shuhadaa neighbourhood, Bayaa and Amil, all southwest Baghdad, said Iraqi Police. No casualties have been reported.

2 unidentified bodies were found by Iraqi Police today; 1 in Ur and 1 in al-Hurriyah.

Diyala

Gunmen opened fire upon a civilian car wounding 2 civilians in Mendili, to the east of Baquba.

A police patrol was attacked by gunmen in Della Abbas village, 20 km to the south of Baquba causing the injury of 3 policemen.

Tikrit

Gunmen ambush the Chief of Police of al-Mahata area in the city of Balad this morning. The Chief and 2 of his security detail were killed and 2 civilians were seriously wounded.

Gunmen break into a house and kill one of its inhabitants in the village of al-Hoori, Shirqat district, a little before dawn today.

A roadside bomb exploded in al-Alam Square, on the main route between Tikrit and Baghdad injuring a little boy at 9 am today.
