The daily Iraqi violence report is compiled by McClatchy Newspapers Special Correspondents in Baghdad from police, military and medical reports. This is not a comprehensive list of all violence in Iraq, much of which goes unreported. It’s posted without editing as transmitted to McClatchy’s Washington Bureau.

Baghdad At 5:15 p.m. gunmen launched a series of 16 rocket attacks at Camp Victory, a large U.S. Military base near the Baghdad International Airport. The rockets hit both inside the base and surrounding neighborhoods, the U.S. military said. Five Iraqi civilians were killed and at least 14 were wounded. Two U.S. soldiers were also injured. Eight of the wounded, including five children and an infant, were taken to a U.S. military hospital for treatment. Six suspects were immediately detained in connection with the attacks and an unexploded rocket was confiscated.

Gunmen driving a sedan car (black Daewoo car) opened fire targeting a check point of the Iraqi army in Zayuna neighborhood east Baghdad around 8:30 p.m. One soldier was injured in the incident. The soldiers of the check point chased the car. The gunmen (3 gunmen) were arrested.

Two rockets hit the Green Zone downtown Baghdad at 10:24 p.m. Iraqi police said. The US officials didn’t confirm the news. Police found five bodies in Baghdad today. Three bodies were found in Rusafa, the eastern side of the Baghdad in the following neighborhood (2 bodies in Fdhiliyah and a body in Sadr city). The other two bodies were found in Doura neighborhood in Karkh, the western side of Baghdad. Diyala A suicide car bomb targeted the office of the local committees in Shams village south of Baquba city around 12:00 pm. No casualties were reported. Two members of the guards of Sheikh Abdul Kareem Khalaf al Nidawi were injured when a car bomb hit the house of the sheikh in Mandili town, 70 kilometers northeast of Baquba city Monday afternoon. Salahuddin An Iraqi police source said that Nahi Khalaf Ahmed, a Major in the Iraqi police was killed in an IED attack in front of his house in al Zohoor neighborhood in downtown Tikrit city on Sunday night. The police said that Nahi was coming back home from the mosque when the IED exploded. A US soldier was shot and wounded by a sniper in downtown Tikrit city on Monday afternoon, the U.S. military said. Basra A security source said that Captain Mohammed Nouri, an officer in the department of internal affairs survived an assassination attempt when gunmen opened fire upon his car in downtown Basra. Three of Nouri’s guards were injured in the incident. The police of the southern districts said that a civilian named Khalid Ahmed Abdul Qadir was released and his kidnappers were arrested in Abi al Khaseeb area south of Basra. A woman was released and the gang who kidnapped her (three men) were arrested. The incident took place in Abi al Khaseeb area
