Roundup of Iraq Violence Thursday, May 24, 2007

The daily Iraq violence report is compiled by McClatchy Newspapers in Baghdad from police, military and medical reports. This is not a comprehensive list of all violence in Iraq, much of which goes unreported. It’s posted without editing as transmitted to McClatchy’s Washington Bureau.

Baghdad

Around 10.00am, one civilian was killed and another wounded when U.S. soldiers fired after their patrol struck an IED. One Humvee was set on fire. The incident occurred in Adan Siq in Al-Hurriyah neighborhood of northeast Baghdad

At 4:30 gunmen open fire on a minibus, killing 9 men and 2 women. The gunmen then planted an IED inside the minibus targeting the police and the civilian who came to help. The IED explosion killed 2 civilians, injured 6. Two policemen were also injured

At 4:30 car bomb attacked an Iraqi Army checkpoint in Hay Al salam, 1 killed and 2 injured.

At 5:00 pm a mortar hit abu atsheer; one killed and 3 injured

22 bodies were found in Baghdad today. 19 were found in Karkh, the western part of Baghdad in the following neighborhoods: 1 in Kadhemiyah, 2 in Taji, 1 in Hay al Jamiaa, 3 in Amil, 3 in Bayaa, 2 in Saidiyah, 2 in Mansour, 2 in Abu Ghraib, and 3 in Doura. 3 bodies were found in Rusafa, the eastern part of Baghdad, in the following neighborhoods: 1 body in Sadr City, 1 body in Husseiniyah and 1 body Al Saadoun).

Anbar

Around 10.00am, a suicide car bomb killed 20 civilian and injured 30 others near Al-Fardaws mosque in Fallujah. The explosion was targeting a funeral of an Islamic party member who killed yesterday.

Kirkuk

This morning, Iraqi police sources said gunmen killed 6 including one civilian and commander from Kurdistan emergency battalion in Suliaman bek district.

Salah ad Din

Around 8:00am, 6 civilians injured by IED explosion that hit their car in Ad Dawr.

Yesterday evening, American soldiers killed one civilian and wounded another when they opened fire after their patrol was targetted in Ad Dawr. Police said the American military detained 2 civilians and handed over the dead body to the family.

Mosul

This morning, 2 were killed (man and woman) and one woman injured by an IED that exploded near their car in Al-Sharkhat south of Mosul.
