Roundup of violence in Iraq - 16 December

The daily Iraq violence report is compiled by McClatchy Newspapers Special Correspondent Mohammed al Awsy in Baghdad from police, military and medical reports. This is not a comprehensive list of all violence in Iraq, much of which goes unreported. Itís posted without editing as transmitted to McClatchyís Washington Bureau.

Baghdad - this evening a militia attacked TAL MOHAMMED area in new Baghdad southeast Baghdad, clashes happened between the militia and residents of a home, 3 from the residence were killed and another was injured and the militia ran away.

today 53 bodies were found in over badghdad, 15 were found in a different places of al ghazaliyah, 5 shoala, 4 amil, 4 hurriyah, 2 saidiyah, 2 dora, 3 abu atsheer, 1 yarmouk, 1 mansour, 1 maamon, 1 adisiyah, 1 bayaa, 2 furat, 3 jihad, 3 sadr city, 2 shaab and 3 new Baghdad.

DIYALA province

according to an Iraqi military source from the second brigade of the fifth division in diyala province, a force from the second brigade confiscated last night a big number of weapons left by the terrorists in a KIA mini bus near 17th July village in khan bani saad town southern of baqouba.

according to a security source from the operation room in diyala province, two policemen who were at a checkpoint near al shareef grave yard were killed and another was injured when they were attacked by unknown terrorists .

BASRA province . according to captain tane dunlop the spokseman of the MNF in the south, 2 British soldiers were injured by an IED that was planted on the road next to their patrol, it happened in al maakal area north of basra .

also in basra a conference was held yesterday at basra big mosque by a clerics and tribal sheikhs from both sects, with the attendance of the Islamic party in basra, MSA, sunni endowment and a representatives from MUQTADA that consisted of 4 sheikhs from najaf, both sides have agreed to abandon killing iraqis. sheikh abdul kareem jarad from the Islamic party in basra said that all the sunni marjaaia in basra made a fatwa last month to abandon killing Shiites and sought permission to rebuild the shrines in samarra.

KIKUK province - the Iraqi police forces in kirkuk arrested last night an armed group that kills and kidnaps citizens in kirkuk and its outskirts. police colonel ANWAR KADER from DOMIZ police directorate in kirkuk said that a gang entered last night a house at al asra area pretending that they were Iraqi police. they stabbed the man of the house many times and kidnapped his wife and took her to another house in al askaty area in kirkuk. in a raid, the Iraqi police were able to arrest the gang and freed the woman and after the investigation the gang confessed that they had raped the woman.
