Roundup of Violence in Iraq -- March 1, 2007

The Iraq violence report is compiled by McClatchy Newspapers in Baghdad from police, military and medical reports. This is not a comprehensive list of all violence in Iraq, much of which goes unreported. Itís posted without editing as transmitted to McClatchyís Washington Bureau.

Baghdad

-- Two policemen were injured when someone from an unknown car tossed an IED near their patrol (which guards the MOI) and when police surrounded the area and checked it the IED exploded. The explosion happened at 8:30 a.m. at Mohammed Al-Qasim highway (East Baghdad).

-- One employee of Baghdadís provincial council was killed and 4 others were injured when an IED exploded inside their bus at 9:00 p.m. at Palestine Street (East Baghdad).

Police found 15 anonymous bodies in Baghdad. 13 on Karkh (the west side of Baghdad) in the following neighborhoods: (6 in Yarmouk, 2 in Dora, 2 in Saidiya, 2 in Ghazaliyah, 1 in Al Jihad). Two bodies were found on Rusafa (the eastern side of Baghdad) on Al Qanat highway.

Diyala

-- Two policemen were injured when gunmen attacked a police check point central Baqouba Thursday morning.

-- One child was injured after mortar shells fall on Al Hwaider area north of Baqouba Thursday afternoon.

Kirkuk

-- Brigadier General Sarhad Qadir, the chief of Kirkuk police dept., said that a U.S. helicopter crashed due to mechanical problems on Thursday morning in Daqouq town (30 Km south Kirkuk). He said the pilots were injured and were taken to Kirkuk air base.

Fallujah (Anbar province) -- Seven men were killed and 14 were injured when a parked car bomb exploded targeting the wedding of a policeman, Ahmed Naaeem, of Fallujah police department this afternoon. The blast damaged Al Furqan mosque and several adjacent homes
