The U.S. Department of Agriculture is forecasting that the Kansas corn harvest will be down 19 percent from last year, at 472.5 million bushels, and down 5 percent from the August forecast.
That would make 2011 the smallest Kansas corn crop since 2006.
Corn yield is forecast to average 105 bushels per acre, down five bushels from the August forecast and 20 bushels less than the 2010 yield. If realized, this would be the lowest Kansas corn yield since 1983.
