The economics of parades has Wichita asking for more help

On average, parades cost the city of Wichita $2,109 to cover police security, traffic management and fuel.

City Council members voted 4-2 today to make parade organizers start sharing the cost.

Police have met with several organizations that do parades. Police said some organizers, including the Wichita Toy Run, say the new cost-sharing may make parades too expensive to conduct.
