Not surprisingly, newly released economic statistics show 2009 was a lousy year throughout the Northern San Joaquin Valley.
Stanislaus County's real gross domestic product fell 5.3 percent in 2009. That decline was more than double the national average. It was the third straight year of loss for the county's real GDP, which is the inflation-adjusted market value of goods and services produced.
Stanislaus' real GDP fell to $13.14 billion in 2009. That was nearly $1.3 billion less than what was produced in 2006. The biggest drops were in construction, durable goods manufacturing, transportation and utilities.
