Wells Fargo & Co. on Thursday passed JPMorgan Chase & Co. to become the largest U.S. bank by market value.
The San Francisco bank's total market capitalization climbed to $157.57 billion, while the New York bank's value fell to $156.42 billion after the close of Thursday's trading.
Wells bought Charlotte's Wachovia in 2008 but remains much smaller than JPMorgan in total assets.
